Marauders pull away from Beavers in first action after break

Bemidji State falls to Mary 84-52 in first game back from break

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University women's basketball team fell to University of Mary 84-52 Friday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. The Beavers (3-8, 0-7 NSIC) finished the night with their fourth best shooting percentage of 36.8% to the Marauders (6-4, 5-2 NSIC) 47.6%.

Bemidji State got on the board early with an Alyssa Hill put back in the first 30-seconds and three minutes in BSU held a four-point lead. Unfortunately, it did not last long and the Marauders took the lead three minutes later and never gave it up. The Beavers shot their best in the first quarter going 5-for-11 (45.5%) from the field but unable to connect on any of their four three pointers. Bemidji State struggled from behind the arc only going 5-for-24 (20.8%). Maddie Schires led the way by making three of the five and shooting 50% from deep. With each quarter the Mary lead grew and grew until the final horn sounded at 84-52.

Fifth-year senior Trinity Yoder led the Beavers in points with 14 on the night going 5-for-12 from the field, 1-for-3 from three and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. Schires was right behind with 13 with nine of her points coming from three's. Hill tied Schires with the best shooting performance on the team with both of them finishing 5-for-8, Hill ended the game with 10 points.

Only two rebounds shy of her second double-double of the season was Hill leading the team with eight. As a team the Beavers finished with 32 rebounds eight coming from their own missed shots. Second on the night for the BSU was Sam Pogatchnik with five. Defensively Bemidji State swatted five Marauders shots with Hill blocking two.

The Beavers will return to the BSU Gymnasium tomorrow as they host the Minot State University Beavers on New Year's Eve with a 1 p.m., start time.
