Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. (BSU Gymnasium) -- Bemidji State University women's basketball's senior day was spoiled by No. 16 St. Cloud State University on Saturday during a 67-57 loss at BSU Gymnasium. Sophomore Rachael Heittola led BSU with 18 points as the Beavers end the regular season 13-12 overall and 11-10 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Heittola shot 7-of-14 from the field with nine rebounds and two steals while senior Brooklyn Bachmann scored 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting with seven rebounds. Bachmann, along with Coley Rezabek, Taylor Vold, Molly Wenner, Claire Wolhowe, Trinity Yoder and Sydney Zerr were all recognized during senior day festivities.
Zerr answered an opening basket by SCSU with her first 3-pointer of the game and a quick 3-2 lead. BSU went on to miss its next six field goals and gave away four turnovers as SCSU took a 17-5 lead at the under-five-minute media timeout. The Huskies' lead grew to 13 points early in the second quarter before Zerr sparked a 7-0 run by the Beavers to cut the deficit to six, 27-21.
After trailing 34-27 at halftime, Bemidji State went on a streak of five straight made fields, including an and-one conversion, to bring BSU back within four points, 42-38, with 5:26 to play in the third quarter. SCSU shot 4-of-5 over the remainder of the period to take a 51-44 lead into the fourth.
The Beavers missed nine straight shots to open the fourth quarter as the Huskies took advantage for a 20-point lead with 3:50 in the game. BSU cut its deficit to 10 by the end of the game as the Beavers sank three of its final four 3-point attempts.
Bemidji State returns to BSU Gymnasium Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. to host Winona State University in the first round of the NSIC Tournament.
