BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University men's hockey team fell, 5-1, to No. 1 Minnesota State University Mankato this evening. The Beavers move to 14-18 this season with a 12-12 record in CCHA conference play.
Lucas Sowder of MSU started the scoring for game two, marking a goal 13:53 into the first period. Julian Napravnik followed Sowder's goal with one of his own with just under two minutes left in the period, scoring the game-winning goal. The Mavericks then used the power-play to their advantage six minutes into the second period when Cade Borchardt marked another goal for Minnesota State. Closing out the second-period scoring was Ondrej Pavel who put the Mavericks up by four to end the first 40 minutes of play.
Midway through the third period, Will Zmolek marked BSU's lone goal to put the Beavers on the board and prevent the shutout. MSU's Napravnik answered back two minutes later to end the scoring and finish the Maverick's win at 5-1.
Bemidji State's Mattias Sholl marked 20 saves for a .800 save percentage this evening. The Beavers spent less time in the penalty box, five penalties for ten minutes, versus the Mavericks six penalties for 23 minutes served. Owen Sillinger led the Beavers in shots on goal with eight attempts and four on goal. Alex Ierullo and Elias Rosen marked the only assists for the Beavers.
BSU now heads home to prepare for the final series of the regular season. They will host University of St. Thomas on Feb. 25 and 26 for Senior Weekend.
