Carney nabs first career WCHA weekly accolade as league’s Rookie of the Week

Freshman Raeley Carney named WCHA Rookie of the Week after first games of career

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – After playing in her first collegiate women's hockey series and scoring her first two collegiate goals, freshman Raeley Carney of the Bemidji State University women's hockey team was selected as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week to earn her first career weekly accolade.
 
Carney, a native of Wasilla, Alaska, was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week after potting her first two collegiate goals over the weekend. Carney netted both goals in the Beavers' 6-3 win against Lindenwood University this past Saturday and both goals were scored on the power play, helping the Beavers go 3-for-3 on the power play and score three, power-play goals for the first time since 2016.
 
Carney finished the weekend posting four shots on goal, blocking two and was a plus-1 rating on the ice.
 
Also named athletes of the week were University of Wisconsin's Lacey Eden (Forward) and Jane Gervais (Goaltender while University of Minnesota Duluth's Ashton Bell was named the league's Defender of the Week.
 
Bemidji State looks to continue its hot start to the season and will travel east to No. 10 Clarkson University for a non-conference series against the Golden Knights in Potsdam, N.Y.
