BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Basketball team travels to Wayne State College and Augustana University this weekend for Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. The Beavers start their weekend at Wayne State on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and continue their road trip the following day against Augustana at 5:30 p.m.
The Series vs Wayne State
- Wayne State leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 36-14.
- The Beavers and Wildcats last met Jan. 29, 2022, with a 60-51 win by BSU in Bemidji, Minn.
- Wayne State leads the series when played in Wayne, Neb., 22-4.
- Bemidji State and Wayne State first met Feb. 6, 1993, a 92-91 win for BSU.
The Series vs Augustana
- Augustana leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 14-2.
- The Beavers and Vikings last met Jan. 28, 2022, with a 69-64 win by AU in Bemidji, Minn.
- BSU has never won at Sioux Falls, falling in all nine road trips.
- Bemidji State and Augustana first met Nov. 17, 2006, 92-76 win for AU.
Fast Break Bemidji State
- The Beavers split last weekend's action starting off with a comeback victory over Concordia University-St. Paul, 70-67, for their second conference win of the season. BSU then fell to No. 11 Minnesota State University, Mankato 90-48.
- Bemidji State trailed by 15 points to the Golden Bears in the first half but rallied to earn the victory. The last time the Beavers came back from a 15-point deficit was in 2017 where they defeated St. Cloud State 52-51.
- Alyssa Hill scored a season high of 21 points in the victory over CSP with 17 coming in the second half. Trinity Yoder joined Hill in scoring over 20 and finished with 22, second highest of the season.
- Hill and Yoder both finished in double figures the following game as well with 13 and 11 points respectively.
- Sam Pogatchnik led the weekend with 14 rebounds to reach triple figures on the season with 110. Pogatchnik is 10th in the NSIC averaging 6.9 rebounds per game.
- In the win over Concordia-St. Paul, Bemidji State recorded its season high of seven blocks, two coming from Yoder and Pogatchnik and Rachel Koenig, Amme Sheforgen and Janna Swanson all getting a piece of one.
- Bemidji State sits 14th in the NSIC for scoring offense and defense scoring 59.9 points per game and allowing 70.6 ppg.
- The Beavers grabbed 71 rebounds last weekend bringing their season total up to 571. BSU averages 35.7 per game, 10th in the conference.
- BSU is 16th in field goal percentage (.383) and 14th in 3-point field goal percentage (.281).
- Bemidji State climbed three spots to fifth for blocked shots averaging 3.75 per game, Hill and Koenig lead the Beavers with 10.
- The Beavers are 13th in turnovers averaging 16.8 per game and 13th in assist to turnover ratio.
Scouting Wayne State
- Head Coach Brent Pollari starts his fifth season with the Wildcats (55-60).
- Wayne State (9-7, 5-7 NSIC) is currently on a five-game losing streak after dropping its games last weekend. They started the weekend hosting Minot State University and fell 57-70 then lost to University of Mary 49-56.
- WSC averages 70.8 points per game, fourth in the NSIC shooting 38.9% from the field and 32.5% from behind the arc.
- Senior point guard Lauren Zacharias leads the Wildcats in points with 260 and rebounds with 80. Zacharias was named NSIC South Player of the Week for Dec. 20, after averaging 25.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists and 4.5 steal against Winona State University and Upper Iowa University.
Scouting Augustana
- Head Coach Dave Krauth starts his 34th season with the Vikings, leading AU to 33 winning seasons.
- AU (15-3, 9-3 NSIC) came away with weekend victories to extend its win streak to three. Augustana started its weekend defeating Mary 77-57 then followed it up with a 74-67 win over Minot State
- Augustana averages 76.3 points per game, second in the NSIC shooting 45.3% from the field and 36.1% from behind the arc.
- Senior Aislinn Duffy leads the Vikings in points (278), rebounds (137) and assists (77). Duffy was named NSIC South Player of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in Augustana's previous two victories.
