BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Basketball team welcomes Southwest Minnesota State University and University of Sioux Falls to the BSU Gymnasium for the first time in three years for Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Beavers open the weekend hosting the Mustangs Friday at 7:30 p.m., followed by 5:30 p.m., against the Cougars, Saturday.
The Series vs Southwest Minnesota State
- SMSU leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 43-33.
- The Beavers and Mustangs last met Jan. 22, 2022, with a 70-67 win by BSU in Marshall, Minn.
- Bemidji State leads the series when played in Bemidji, Minn., 22-21.
- Bemidji State and Southwest Minn. State first met Jan. 1, 1978, a 63-52 win for SMSU.
The Series vs Sioux Falls
- Sioux Falls leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 9-0
- The Beavers and Cougars last met Jan. 21, 2022, with a 66-59 win by USF in Sioux Falls, S.D.
- Sioux Falls leads the series when played in Bemidji, Minn., 4-0.
- Bemidji State and Sioux Falls first met Feb. 2, 2013, 82-70 win for USF.
Fast Break Bemidji State
- The Beavers dropped their games on the road last weekend. They started off in Wayne, Neb., where they were bested by Wayne State College 55-71. Then the following day fell to Augustana 38-82 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
- Alyssa Hill recorded her third double-double of the season against the Wildcats with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
- Trinity Yoder was sent to the line 10 times facing WSC to now leads the Beavers in career free throws attempted passing Sierra Senske's record of 536. Yoder is 19 made free throws away from setting a program record.
- Hill led the team with 28 points on the weekend and was the sole student-athlete to reach double figures in both games.
- Brooke Theis swatted three shots last weekend to double her season blocks to six.
- Bemidji State sits 15th in the NSIC for scoring offense and defense averaging 58.4 points per game and allowing 71.3 ppg.
- Sam Pogatchnik leads BSU in rebounds with 120 and ranks 10th in the conference averaging 6.7 rebounds per game. As a team the Beavers rank 11th in the NSIC with 35.6 rpg.
- BSU is 16th in field goal percentage (.374) and 15th in 3-point field goal percentage (.271).
- The Beavers are 14th in turnovers averaging 14.6 per game and 13th in assist to turnover ratio.
Scouting Southwest Minnesota State
- Head Coach Tom Webb starts his seventh season with the Mustangs (69-99) and his 13th coaching Division II basketball (160-222).
- SMSU (11-8, 8-6 NSIC) is currently on a three-game losing streak after dropping its games last weekend. They started the weekend falling to St. Cloud State University in overtime 59-70 then fell 87-75 to No. 13 University of Minnesota, Duluth the following day.
- SMSU averages 75.2 points per game, shooting 43.7% from the field and 36.9% from behind the arc.
- Sophomore guard Bri Stoltzman leads the Mustangs in both points (256) and rebounds (125). Stoltzman scored a season high 24 points against University of Mary on Jan. 6.
Scouting Sioux Falls
- Head Coach Travis Traphagen starts his 15th season with the Cougars (273-149).
- USF (6-14, 3-11 NSIC) dropped both of its games last weekend after falling to No. 13 Minnesota Duluth (54-72) and St. Cloud State (42-61).
- Augustana averages 57.4 points per game, shooting 39.1% from the field and 30.4% from behind the arc.
- Sophomore guard Olivia Gamoke leads the Cougars in points (201), rebounds (79), assists (52), steals (31) and blocks (5). Gamoke scored 19 points in her best game of the season against Mary, Jan. 7.
