DULUTH, Minn. – No. 14 University of Minnesota Duluth score three power-play goals in the first period of its non-conference match-up with the Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team Friday night at AMSOIL Arena to power the Bulldogs to a 4-0 victory.

Bemidji State falls to 1-2-0 to start the season before concluding the series with the Bulldogs (2-0-2) tomorrow night at Sanford Center.

The Bulldogs scored early in the game scoring on their first power play 3:23 into the first period off the stick of Matthew Perksins. Minnesota Duluth then took advantage of a five-minute major penalty against the Beavers and Luke Bast (11:01) and Aaron Pionk (14:50) each scored during the long power play.

The two teams played a scoreless second period but Cole Spicer iced the game with the Bulldogs' fourth goal at 12:24 of the final frame.

The Beavers' penalty-kill unit allowed three goals on six UMD power plays while BSU earned seven power plays of its own but failed to capitalize on any going 0-for-7.

Bemidji State was held off the scoreboard for the first time this season with Zach Stejskal stopping all 23 Beaver shots while BSU netminder
Mattias Sholl stopped 23-of-27 UMD shots.

BSU will attempt to salvage the series split tomorrow night in Bemidji when the two teams meet for game two of their home-and-home series at 6:07 p.m., at Sanford Center.
