Looft named CCHA’s top defenseman for month of October

Fifth-year senior captain registers five points during month to earn first monthly accolade

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Men's Hockey defenseman Kyle Looft has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Defenseman of the Month for October announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.

The Mankato, Minn., native anchored the Beavers' blueline and recorded five points off two goals and three assists to finish second on the team and blocked a team-high 15 shots defensively to rank second among all league skaters. Looft was named the league's Defenseman of the Week on Oct. 23 after he registered a career-high three points off two goals and an assist against nationally ranked University of Minnesota Duluth. His two power-play markers from that game were second most in the league during the entire month. He also led the Beavers with a +4 rating on the ice and contributed 11 shots offensively.

This is the first time in his five seasons that Looft has earned a league monthly accolade.

He was joined by Lake Superior State University's Jared Westcott as the leagues' forward of the month, University of St. Thomas' Jake Sibell as the goaltender, and Northern Michigan University's Tanner Latsch as the league's top rookie.

Looft and the Beavers hit the road this weekend for their first road CCHA series of the season and travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., for a two-game series with Lake Superior State beginning Friday.
