Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Beavers advance to second round behind Waters’ early goal and Steadman’s seven saves

Bemidji State Women’s Soccer defeats St. Cloud State in first round of NCAA Tournament

EMPORIA, Kan. – Sophomore Sylve Waters scored in the sixth minute and freshman Ana Steadman stopped all seven shots she faced in her collegiate debut as the Bemidji State University Women's Soccer team defeated St. Cloud State University 1-0 Friday morning to advance to the second round of the NCAA DII Women's Soccer Tournament at Emporia State University.

The Beavers (13-3-6) advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will face Emporia State Sunday at 1 p.m. from ESU Soccer Pitch.

In her first collegiate debut between the posts, Steadman shined for the Beavers in net to help BSU earn its third consecutive clean sheet as well as her first collegiate shutout.

Steadman and the Beavers played with the lead for most of the match after Waters scored her second goal of the season just 5:15 after the opening kick-off.

The goal was a beautiful one as she one-touched a great through ball from redshirt sophomore Emma Huelsnitz for her first assist of the season and first point since Nov. 5, 2021.

Bemidji State played in its offensive half for much of the first half out-shooting the Huskies (14-5-2) 5-2 in the first 45 minutes of play.

The second half would be all St. Cloud State however, as the Huskies attempted seven shots in the half to just one for the Beavers. BSU's defensed didn't waiver with Steadman denying the Huskies on all six shots she saw in the second half to earn her first collegiate shutout and send the Beavers onto the next round of the NCAA Tournament.

It is the third consecutive season the Beavers advanced past the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
