JOPLIN, Mo. – The Bemidji State University Cross Country team will set their sights on the NCAA Central Region Championship meet this Saturday that will take place on the 6,000-meter Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
Bemidji State is coming off the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship placing 10th. Mary Goodwin tallied a top 40 finish placing 33rd with a time of 22:22.10 which also ranks second in program history for 6k courses. The Beavers had three times land inside the top 10 with Carol Miller posting a time of 23:09.80 for the sixth-best time in the 6k. Then Maggie McCarthy's time of 23:19.30 landed ninth in program history. Goodwin, Miller, McCarthy, Nadia Vaughn, Hadley Stuehrenberg, and Callie Ressler all added personal-best times at the NSIC Championship.
Goodwin, McCarthy, Vaughn, and Miller all competed in last year's NCAA Central Region Championship that took place on the same course in Joplin. Goodwin placed 75th with a time of 22.31.6, McCarthy added a time of 23:39.0 to place 137th. Vaughn posted a time of 24:24.0 to come in 170th and Miller landed a time of 24:29.0 to place 173rd.
Overall as a team, Bemidji State placed 25th our of 35 teams in the Central Regional. The Beavers averaged a team time of 23:48 in 2022 in this event. NSIC's Augustana won the regional title last year with 62 points, besting Pittsburg State's 120.
The NCAA Central Region Championship has been held in Joplin since 2018, with the top result for the Beavers being 25th (twice) both last year and in 2019.
