BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University fifth-year senior
Carter Jones has been tabbed the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Forward of the Week announced by the league Monday afternoon.
Jones led the Beavers with three goals in their series split with Lake Superior State and added an assist to tie for the team lead with four points over the weekend. It is the first time in his five seasons that Jones has been honored with a weekly award.
The Hillyard, Wash., native started the weekend by scoring a career-high two goals and added an assist for a career-high three points in the Beavers' 7-1 series opening victory. He scored the lone goal for BSU the following night to finish with three goals. Jones made the most of the chances he got scoring his three goals on just four shots over the weekend. Jones wasn't on the ice for a goal against in the series and tied for the team lead with a +4 rating.
Jones has been hot as of late and during November and first weeks of December, he has recorded 10 points (3g-7a) in 10 games. He has 13 points off three goals and 10 assists on the season, third most on the team, and his 0.64 assists per game average is the eighth best in the CCHA.
He is joined by Ferris State's Travis Shoudy (Defenseman), Bowling Green's Cole Moore (Goaltender) and Lake Superior State's John Herrington (Rookie) as players of the week for Dec. 11.
The Beavers will have a quick turnaround for their next series and remain at home to host Bowling Green for a two-game set beginning Thursday, Dec. 14 and ending Friday.
