No. 3 Minnesota captures series sweep over Beavers Saturday afternoon

Genevieve Hendricks scores lone goal as BSU Women’s Hockey falls 9-1 at No. 3 Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Bemidji State University Women's Hockey junior Genevieve Hendrickson scored her first goal of the season but No. 3 University of Minnesota skated to a 9-1 victory over the Beavers in their series finale Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena.

G. Hendrickson was assisted by freshmen Kate Johnson and Talya Hendrickson with their line producing all three goals in the series.

She scored her first of the season when Johnson capitalized on a two-on-one and sent the puck over to Hendrickson who one-timed the pass bar-down with 5:16 to play in the third period.

The Beavers' defense blocked 23 shots in the game led by junior Makenna Deering and freshman Riley Reeves who blocked four shots each.

Freshman Eva Filippova started the fourth game of her career and played the first 20 minutes and turned aside 10 shots. She was replaced by junior Abbie Thompson who stopped 25-of-29 shots.

G. Hendrickson also led the Beavers on the face-off dot winning 13-of-22 draws.

The Beavers fall to 1-14-1 on the season and 1-11-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association and return to action next weekend for a road trip to Mendota Heights to take on University of St. Thomas for a two-game, league series.
