BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Junior forward John Sutherland put together another monster week with a pair of double-doubles, along with hitting the game-winning shot against Minnesota Crookston and was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
Sutherland paced the Beavers to a pair of wins averaging 21.5 points and 12 rebounds, while shooting over 54 percent and tallied the game-winning layup at the buzzer against the Golden Eagles. He also dished out 11 assists and two steals. Sutherland had a double-double in both games, opening the week in the win over Minot State with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Sutherland was then approaching a triple-double in the win over Minnesota Crookston with 26 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. He went 12-20 from the field and had the game-winning layup with under a second to play. He went 19-35 (54.3) from the field and added a 5-7 clip at the foul line in the two games.
Bemidji State, off to a 6-2 start and 2-0 mark in conference play, travel to MSU Moorhead this Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Northern State on Saturday beginning at 4 p.m.
