Bemidji State falls in final day of Bubble Invite to Montana State-Billings

Beavers score first but unable to capture the win

MINOT, N.D. – The Bemidji State University Softball team fell in the final day of the Bubble Invite to Montana State University, Billings 4-1 Sunday afternoon in Minot. Emmarie Yeager drove in the first run of the game for the Beavers, but the one run wouldn't hold up.

Ashley Herold had the first hit of the game in the second inning with a double to right field, BSU's only extra base hit in the game. She was later left stranded at third. The following inning, Kora Martin hit a two-out single to center field but was left on base. With the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Yeager broke the deadlock driving in one run with a ground out. BSU (3-5) strung together three straight singles ahead of Yeager's RBI ground out. The Beavers had another chance with bases loaded in the fourth after Morgan Benedict drew a walk, but all three runners were left on base following a ground out to third. Bemidji State was held scoreless for the rest of the game while MSUB (4-6) put together two, two-run innings in the fifth and sixth to pull ahead 4-1. In the Beavers final inning to make up the difference all three batters grounded out to third base.

Kyla Damerow (1-3) started in the circle for the Beavers and strung together four scoreless innings with two strikeouts. In the fifth inning, MSUB took the lead with a two-run homerun. Stella Dolan relieved Damerow in the fifth inning to get the final out. In the sixth inning, two more runs were scored by MSUB with Dolan striking out the final batter of the inning. Both runs scored in the sixth were unearned.

BSU held the 8-7 edge in hits with Martin, Alexa Christenson and Herold all recording two hits apiece. The Beavers committed the only two errors in the game. Alyssa Etheridge went all seven innings to get the win (4-3) in the circle for the Yellowjackets, allowing just the one earned run with seven strikeouts.

The Beavers head into a two-week break before traveling to Clermont, Fla., for 10 games in the Spring Games from Mar. 5 to 10.
