BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team earned its first win of 2023 Friday evening against Malone University, 8-6. Senior pitcher
Logan Barrick earned his first win of the season on the mound after pitching 6.2 innings and allowed six runs, three earned while striking out three.
The Pioneers (9-4) began the game with an RBI single in the top of the first but the Beavers (1-13) responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to gain a 2-1 lead.
Jacob Marx began the scoring with an RBI double while
Zach Listiak drove in Marx with a single.
Malone tied the game in the second with another RBI single but the Beavers exploded for five runs in the bottom of the second to retake the lead.
Hunter Daymond began the scoring run with a fielder's choice with runners on second and third to bring in one while
James Wirt hit an RBI double, followed by RBI singles from Marx, Listiak and
Ty Karger to cap-off the Beavers' scoring run.
Karger then drove in another run in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly to put the Beavers up 8-2. Malone rallied with a run in the sixth and then scored three in the seventh to bring the score to 8-6 but freshman
Christian Lindow entered the game in the seventh and pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball to capture his first collegiate save and give the Beavers their first win of the season.
Bemidji State totaled a season high 12 hits in the game and tied the season high of eight runs. Listiak paced the Beavers at the plate going 3-for-4 with two RBI while Wirt also recorded three hits in five plate appearances, scored twice and drove in one. Marx, Listiak and Karger each led the Beavers with two runs batted in while Wirt, Marx and
Carter Simon each hit doubles.
Barrick captured his first victory on the mound and is 1-0 after pitching 6.2 innings allowing six runs, three earned, off nine hits, walked two and struck out three. Listiak didn't allow a run, gave up two hits and struck out a career-high four batters to earn the save.
Bemidji State closes out its spring break trip tomorrow morning and looks to keep its winning ways in tack by facing Dickinson State University (N.D.) for a single game at 10:00 a.m. CT.
