Beavers sweep final day at the Spring Games

Bemidji State earns 10th win of the season 4-2 over St. Michael’s

Leesburg, Fla. – The Bemidji State University Softball team ends the final day at the Spring Games with wins over Mercy College (2-1) and St. Michael's College (4-2) that took place on Friday. The Beavers win over St. Michael's improves them to 10-8 overall and 7-3 at the Spring Games. 
  
Bemidji State capitalized on an error from Mercy College (0-9) in the fourth inning to break the scoreless deadlock. Mariah Stevenson doubled to send both Kora Martin and Alexa Christenson home for the 2-0 lead. Mercy College responded in the bottom of the fifth where Victoria Seppala hit one out of the park to bring the score within one. Both teams finished with three hits and Bemidji State claimed the pitcher's duel by a score of 2-1.
 
The Beavers recorded three hits, a single, double and triple. Alexa Christenson singled for the first hit for BSU in the fourth inning and two batters later Stevenson doubled. In the following inning, Emmarie Yeager led the top of the fifth with a triple to right field. Martin also got on base reaching on an error in fourth.
 
Elle Hastings started her first game of the season going five innings and earned her first win of the season. Hastings stuck out three batters, gave up two hits, walked one and gave up one earned run. Kyla Damerow came in the sixth inning and only allowed one hit to record the save. In the seven batters Damerow saw she struck out three.
 
In the second game of the day against Saint Michael's (1-1), Bemidji State broke through first. After two scoreless innings Aimee Christenson drove the first run in with an RBI groundout in the third to bring in Morgan Benedict who opened the frame with a single. The following inning, BSU scored three more runs to push out to a 4-0 advantage. Starting with an RBI double from Yeager, a passed ball scored Molly Houts and then Yeager capped the scoring when she stole home. St. Michael's College got on the board in the sixth inning after a two-run blast from Jenna Devens, but the Beavers locked down after that to claim the 4-2 victory.
 
Bemidji State pulled together nine hits in the win with Alexa Christenson and Stevenson having two-hit games. Yeager and Alexa Christenson had extra base hits with doubles. Alexa Christenson, Grace Gumiela and Yeager all stole a base in the contest.
 
Stella Dolan (7-3) earned her seventh win on the season pitching another complete game. Dolan went 5-1 at the Spring Games and pitched four complete games. In the victory over St. Michael's, she tallied a career-high nine strikeouts, while walking one batter, giving up five hits and two earned runs. After a successful week in Florida, Dolan improves her ERA to 3.05.
 
Bemidji State heads to St. Joseph, Mo., for the MWSU Tournament on Friday, March 17 for a three-day stretch of six games.
