St. Cloud State defeats Bemidji State in Beavers’ final road series of the season

Beavers fall 8-0 and 5-1 to Huskies Tuesday afternoon

St. Cloud, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Softball team fell to St. Cloud State University, 8-0 and 5-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Tuesday afternoon at Selke Field in St. Cloud, Minn. The Beavers are currently 10th in the NSIC with a conference record of 8-12 and overall record of 19-22, which places them in the final tournament spot.
 
The Huskies (28-16, 13-6 NSIC) started the scoring off in game one with a sacrifice fly from Josey Marquette in the second inning. St. Cloud State then took advantage of a two-out error in the third with four additional runs. The Huskies ended the game in the fifth inning when Raven Vanden Langenberg hit a two-run home run for the 8-0 victory.
 
The Beavers reached base five times in game one with Alexa Christenson making it to first three times. Alexa Christenson singled in the third and drew two walks. Grace Gumiela recorded the other hit for the Beavers with a single in the second inning. Molly Houts also reached base with a walk.
 
Kyla Damerow (9-12) started game one for BSU and pitched her ninth complete game. In her 4.2 innings of work Damerow struck out four batters, the second-most this season, did not walk anyone and gave up nine hits and four earned runs. Trinity Junker (15-6) pitched her fourth complete game shutout with eight strikeouts, three walks and gave up two hits.
 
After two scoreless innings to start game two the Beavers broke the deadlock when Alexa Christenson drove Morgan Benedict home. Sydney Tress for the Huskies hit a two-run shot to left field to go up 2-1 in the fourth inning. The Huskies added three more runs to their lead in the fifth for the final runs of the game.
 
Bemidji State doubled the hits in game two compared to game one with four. BSU tallied four singles from Alexa Christenson, Mariah Stevenson, Ashley Herold and Benedict. Aimee Christenson reached base twice drawing two walks in her three plate appearances. Alexa Christenson batted in her 19th run this season with the sole BSU RBI.  
 
In her 25th appearance, Stella Dolan (9-10) pitched her ninth complete game. In her 6.0 innings of work, Dolan struck out one batter, walked three and gave up eight hits and five earned runs. Emma Eickhoff (8-2) started the game for the Huskies pitching four innings with three strikeouts, one walk and gave up four hits and one earned run. Justyce Porter entered the game in the fifth inning and pitched three innings striking out two batters, walking one and did not give up a hit.
 
The Beavers end their regular season with three home series this week, starting with the University of Minnesota, Crookston on Thursday followed by Southwest Minnesota State University on Saturday and end the season with the University of Sioux Falls on Sunday. BSU and the University of Minnesota, Crookston will open the doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Thursday as the Beavers will look to play their first games of the season on the BSU Softball Field.
