Pohlkamp drafted by San Jose Sharks in 2023 NHL Draft

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Incoming Bemidji State University Men's Hockey defenseman Eric Pohlkamp was selected in the NHL 2023 draft on Thursday by the San Jose Sharks in the fifth round and 132nd overall.

It's been a busy past few days for Pohlkamp. The former Brainerd Warrior was one of 16 defensemen selected to play at the U.S. World Junior Showcase last week before being drafted by the Sharks.

"We're excited for Eric. It's every player's dream to get drafted in the NHL and he has more than earned it. He's a driven player who will work as hard as anyone to become the best player possible," BSU head coach Tom Serratore said. "We're proud of Eric and can't wait to see him in the green and white."

Pohlkamp is set to join the Beavers this fall after playing the past two seasons for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders in the USHL. He posted 35 points, including 16 goals in 59 games during the 2022-23 season, helping him earn USHL Defenseman of the Year honors.
