ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Basketball team ran into a hot-starting Concordia-St. Paul team Friday night as the Golden Bears built a 17-point lead after the first quarter on their way to claiming the 74-30 win over the Beavers in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play inside Gangelhoff Center.
Concordia-St. Paul (13-5, 9-4 NSIC) held the edge in all four quarters to claim the win. The Golden Bears scored the first seven points of the game before Alyssa Hill got Bemidji State (3-14, 0-13 NSIC) on the board with a layup three minutes in.
CSP then went on a 14-2 run the remainder of the quarter for the 21-4 lead. Hill tallied a pair of baskets around a layup by Ella Giorgi to account for the Beaver scoring in the second quarter as the Golden Bears held the 12-6 advantage to open the 33-10 lead at halftime.
Ashlynne Guenther led BSU in the third quarter with five points as CSP took the third by a score of 19-8. The Beavers tallied their most points in any quarter in the fourth with 12 Tieryn Plasch, Hill, Amme Sheforgen, Sam Pogatchnik and Alayna Suprenand accounted for the scoring in the final frame.
Hill led the Beavers with 10 points, while adding two blocks. Guenther had seven points and four rebounds. BSU as a team collected eight blocks and forced 13 turnovers. BSU went 12-55 (21.8) from the field, 3-15 (20) from three and 3-6 (50) at the foul line. Concordia-St. Paul connected on 28-66 (42.4) from the field, 8-22 (36.4) from three and 10-12 (83.3) at the foul line.
Bemidji State will play at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Bulldogs cruised to the 82-59 win over Minnesota Crookston on Friday.
