Beaver Volleyball travels to Sioux Falls for single match Saturday

BSU Volleyball looks to end six match losing skid at Sioux Falls

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Volleyball team continues Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on the road this weekend and travels to Sioux Falls, S.D., for a single match at University of Sioux Falls Saturday, Oct. 12. The Beavers (5-8, 0-5 NSIC) battle the Cougars (9-6, 4-3 NSIC) for their only match of the weekend and begin their match at 4 p.m., Saturday.
 
The Beavers are looking to snap a six-match losing streak and enter the weekend tied for 12th in the NSIC standings with an 0-5 league record. The Cougars are 9-6 on the season but fell 3-0 in their last match against Concordia University-St. Paul Tuesday. USF is seventh in the conference with a 4-3 league record.
 
Bemidji State is 2-15 all-time against Sioux Falls and after earning victories in the first two matches of the series, Sioux Falls has won the last 15 matches. The Beavers are 1-7 when facing the Cougars in Sioux Falls.
 
The Beavers are powered by senior captain Ashley Crowl who has totaled 192 points on the season with 153 kills, 29 aces and 20 blocks. Her 3.76 points per set average is the fourth best in the NSIC. Crowl is averaging 3.00 kills per set which is tied for the 10th best average in the NSIC but her 29 aces this season are tops in the league and 28th overall in DII.
 
She is followed by fifth-year senior Rylie Bjerklie who is producing 3.25 points per set and paces the team with a .292 hitting percentage which is 17th in the NSIC. She has recorded 133 kills in 51 sets while also leading the team defensively with 11 solo blocks and 38 total.
 
Junior Zayda Priebe paces the Beavers at the net with 39 blocks (6s-33a) while junior libero Jada Wlodarczyk leads the Beavers' backcourt with 190 digs. She is averaging 3.73 digs per set to rank 11th in the NSIC.
 
Coordinating the Beavers' attack is senior setter Emily Wade who has totaled 417 assists and is ninth in the NSIC with 8.18 assists per set. She has recorded 2,342 assists in her career surpassing Amy Soehren (1992-95) for seventh all-time at Bemidji State.
