Beavers set for noon tipoff versus Vikings

BSU Women’s Basketball hosts Valley City State at noon from the BSU Gymnasium Saturday

BEMIDJI, MINN. – Bemidji State University Women's Basketball hosts Valley City State University Saturday at 12 p.m. in the BSU Gymnasium. 
 
Bemidji State Notes 
  • Bemidji State Women's Basketball marked its 600th program win on Tuesday against University of Minnesota Morris during the team's home opener, also earning the first win of the season for the Beavers. 
  • The forward duo of Ella Giorgi and Rachel Koenig leads the Beavers in points and rebounds this season with Giorgi marking one game as the top scorer and Koenig grabbing two. 
  • Giorgi averages 11.7 points per game with 35 total in three games. She is shooting at 53.6% from the field and 75% from the free throw line. On top of her scoring, Giorgi has marked the most rebounds for BSU with 16 total, an average of 5.3 per game.
  • Koenig sits just behind Giorgi with 29 total points on 11 baskets from the field and seven free-throw makes. She is also second on the team in rebounds with 10 total and leads the team in offensive boards at seven. 
  • BSU's top three-point shooter is Tieryn Plasch who is shooting at 46.7% from the arc and has landed seven of 15 shots. 
  • Following this weekend, the Beavers will have some time off until they head to Crookston, Minn. to take on the University of Minnesota Golden Eagles on Dec. 6 to kick off their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Schedule. 
 
Valley City State Notes 
  • The Vikings are 6-3 this season after a 96-34 victory over Barclay College on Nov. 17. VCSU won three-straight games to begin the season, but has since gone 3-3, alternating wins and losses, in the past six matchups. 
  • VCSU is led by Ashlyn Diemert who has marked 13.7 points per game so far this season. In terms of specific shooting, Tilda Mauritzson has landed 37-of-56 from the field, shooting at .661 percent. At the three-point line, Delaney Cotton has marked five makes on nine attempts for a .556 shooting percentage. 
  • Abby Aslesen leads the rebounding charge with 7.1 per game and Ellie Braaten is the top assist earner and has marked the most steals per game amongst her teammates. 
  • Following Saturday's noon game, the Vikings travel to take on Montana State University Northern on Black Friday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. 
 
The game was previously set for a 2 p.m. but has since been moved. Those who have already purchased tickets that say 2 p.m. are still able to get into the game with the same ticket. The game is also available on the NSIC Network and Beaver Radio Network.
