MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato's Madison Mashuga scored a hat trick to lead the Mavericks to a 5-0 victory over the Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team Friday afternoon at HSEC Mayo Clinic in Mankato, Minn.

Eva Filippova made 21 saves in a losing effort as the Beavers fell to 3-13-1 and 2-11-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play.

Mashuga completed the hat trick with 16:52 left in the second period after she netted goals 4:00 into the first period, 20 seconds into the second and then the third goal 2:48 later. Minnesota State's Alexis Paddington and Jamie Nelson added on the other two goals for the Mavericks who improved to 7-9-1 (3-9-1 WCHA).

Filippova falls to 0-2-0 in her second start of the season while MSU's Hailey Hansen improved to 5-4-2 with her second shutout of the season after stopping all 12 shots she faced.

The Beavers look to salvage the conference series split tomorrow afternoon when the two teams face-off again for game two at 2:00 p.m.
