BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Women's Basketball fell to the Minnesota State University Moorhead, 64-55, on Saturday at BSU Gymnasium in Bemidji, Minn.
Bemidji State led the first quarter against MSUM with a score of 16-12. Bemidji State shot seven-for-15 from the field, including two-for-five from beyond the arc, while the Dragons went five-for-18 with the same three-point success rate. Bemidji State capitalized on points in the paint, scoring 10 compared to MSUM's four, and also gained six points from the bench. Despite committing four turnovers, Bemidji State maintained a narrow edge by securing eight defensive rebounds and recording one block.
During the second quarter, Bemidji State struggled offensively, scoring only nine points compared to MSUM's 22. Bemidji State made three of 13 field goal attempts and one of seven from beyond the arc. Although they had six defensive rebounds, turnovers were an issue with four in the quarter. MSUM capitalized on their opportunities with seven field goals, including four 3-pointers, and secured a 14-to-6 advantage in total rebounds.
In the third quarter, Bemidji State scored 14 points while MSUM edged ahead with 19 points. Bemidji State shot six-for-16 from the field, including two-for-six from beyond the arc, and recorded four assists. Despite scoring six points in the paint and five points from bench players, Bemidji State struggled defensively, collecting only five total rebounds compared to MSUM's 11. MSUM capitalized with 14 points in the paint and five free throws, with their bench contributing six points.
In the fourth quarter, Bemidji State outscored MSUM 16-11. Bemidji State made seven of twelve field goal attempts, including two 3-pointers, while holding the visiting team to five field goals on twelve attempts with no successful three-pointers. The home team secured five rebounds and committed three personal fouls and two turnovers, whereas MSUM had seven rebounds, four fouls, and two turnovers. Bench points were a notable contribution for Bemidji State, accounting for seven of their points in the quarter.
The Bemidji State basketball team features several standout players based on their recent performances.
Tieryn Plasch, who started the game, made a significant impact by sinking three 3-pointers, contributing a total of nine points.
Erin Barrette also made a strong showing, leading the team with 10 points and adding three assists.
Janette Hanni matched Plasch with nine points, demonstrating efficiency with a 4-for-9 shooting performance.
Ella Giorgi contributed both offensively and defensively, scoring seven points and leading the team with four rebounds, while also recording a block. These players showcased their skills and were instrumental in the team's recent efforts.
Bemidji State has an overall record of two wins and six losses, with a conference record of zero wins and four losses in the NSIC. MSUM holds an overall record of six wins and four losses, boasting a perfect conference record of four wins and no losses in the NSIC.
