BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Basketball team enters the final week of its 2023-2024 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season by traveling to Winona State University and (RV) Minnesota State University. The Beavers face the Warriors (8-17, 7-13 NSIC) Friday, Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m. and then the Mavericks (21-5, 18-2 NSIC) Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
With a record of 6-18 overall and 3-17 in NSIC play, the Beavers are aiming to end the season on a high note despite facing some tough competition.
The Beavers are averaging 58.9 points and allowing 65.9 points this season. Making 527-1350 (39.0) from the field, 137-470 (29.1) from the three and 222-325 (68.3) at the foul line.
Leading the team is
Alyssa Hill, a sophomore standout who has been scoring consistently, averaging 13.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. She is 15
th in the NSIC in scoring average. Supporting her are seniors
Sam Pogatchnik and
Amme Sheforgen, who have been important contributors throughout the season, putting up 8.4 points and 7.9 points, respectively.
Winona State is 8-17 overall and 7-13 in NSIC play, going 4-6 at home this season. WSU is averaging 56.8 points and allowing 63.6 points. The Warriors make 527-1403 (37.6) from the field, 156-553 (28.2) from the three and 209-306 (68.3) at the foul line. Opponents are making 562-1449 (38.8) from the field, 210-635 (33.1) from the three and 255-49 (73.1) at the foul line.
Olivia Gamoke is leading the Warriors averaging 9.2 points and 2.7 rebounds, along with 15 steals and 6 blocks. Alex Dornfeld follows with 9.1 points and Emma Carpenter is at 7.8 points.
Minnesota State is 21-5 overall and 18-2 in NSIC play. MSU is averaging 80.3 points per game allowing 61 points. The Mavericks make 791-1897 (41.7) from the field, 131-487 (26.9) from the three and 375-518 (72.4) at the foul line.
Joey Batt leads the team averaging 15.4 points, along with 75 steals and 49 assists. Three of the top-10 leading scorers in the NSIC hail from Minnesota State (Batt, Natalie Bremer, Destinee Bursch).
The Mavericks are the winners of the NSIC regular season title, with a conference record of 18-2. Minnesota State won a program-best 19 straight games between late November 2023 and mid-February 2024.
