ROSEMONT, Ill. – After falling in game one of the Lewis Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill., the Bemidji State University Softball team responded with a 6-4 victory over Purdue University-Northwest in game two to split day one of the invitational.
The Beavers (1-5) were held to just one run off five hits against Truman State University in the first game falling 6-1 to the Bulldogs. Sophomore
Grace Gumiela drove in the Beavers lone run with a ground-out that scored
Aubrey Aukerman from third.
Junior
Mariah Stevenson led the team with two base hits going 2-for-3 while senior
Stella Dolan pitched all seven innings allowing six runs off 10 hits and tied a career high with nine strikeouts.
The Beavers responded in game two scoring six runs off five hits and took advantage of three miscues by Purdue Northwest. Junior
Aimee Christenson led the team with two hits, both singles, and went 2-for-3 and a walk while
Jackie Larsen and Aukerman drove in a run each to lead the team in RBI.
Sophomore
Elle Hastings pitched the first two innings allowing three runs off four hits and a walk while Dolan came in to pitch the final five innings and earned her first win of the season (1-2) allowing just one run off seven hits.
Bemidji State returns to the Lewis Dome tomorrow evening and will play just one game during the day facing Upper Iowa University at 6:00 p.m.
