(RV) Huskies end No. 20 Beavers championship run with 2-1 victory Friday night

Bemidji State’s season ends in heartbreaker against Michigan Tech

BEMIDJI, Minn. – In front of a sold-out Sanford Center crowd, the No. 20 Bemidji State University men's hockey team had its season come to a harsh end Friday night after (RV) Michigan Technological University earned a 2-1 victory and claimed the 2024 Mason Cup Championship.

The Huskies (19-14-6) earn the automatic qualifier into the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Hockey Tournament and advance to their third consecutive NCAA Tournament.

Bemidji State opened the scoring 14:07 into the first period when freshman Kasper Magnussen scored his seventh of the season.

However, the lead didn't last long and 52 seconds later, Chase Pietila tied the game with his third goal of the year.

The teams entered the first intermission locked in a 1-1 tie but 9:20 in the second frame, Ryland Mosley put the Huskies on top with his 18^th goal of the season.

The Beavers pushed the pace offensively in the final period desperately looking for the game-tying goal and out-shot Michigan Tech 17-6 in the third. However, fifth-year senior Blake Pietila was dominant in between the pipes and turned aside all 17 shots to send the Huskies to victory.

Bemidji State has its 2023-24 season come to an end including its nine-game winning streak and 11-game unbeaten streak.

The Beavers finish the 2023-24 season with a 20-16-2 record, reaching the CCHA Championship game for the second time in three years and reached the 20-win mark for the eighth time in their DI history.
