Kevin Ulmer Celebration of Life set for Sept. 23

Celebration of Life Service for BSU Volleyball head coach Kevin Ulmer to be held Monday

BEMIDJI, Minn. – A Celebration of Life Service for Bemidji State University Volleyball head coach Kevin Ulmer has been set. The service will be held at the Evangelical Covenant Church located in Bemidji, Minn. (5405 Hart Ln NW) and will begin at 2 p.m.

Kevin Ulmer, 41, of Bemidji, Minn., died Tuesday September 17, 2024 surrounded by family.
 
Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2024 at Bemidji Covenant Church.
 
Kevin was born June 1983 in Sioux Center, Iowa to Dean and Wanda Ulmer. He grew up and lived in Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at First Reformed Church. He graduated from Pella High School in 2002. Kevin moved to Orange City, Iowa and attended Northwestern College. In 2006 he moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee for his first teaching job at Chattanooga Christian as a physical education teacher and high school volleyball coach.
 
On July 12, 2009 he married Kate Hampson in Spring Grove, Illinois. They moved to Lexington, Kentucky where Kevin started graduate school at the University of Kentucky. When he completed his master's degree in biomechanics and kinesiology, Kevin and Kate moved to Georgetown, Kentucky and started work as the assistant volleyball coach at Georgetown College. In 2012, they moved to Mishawaka, Indiana where Kevin pursued his first head collegiate coaching position at Bethel University. In 2016 Kevin's career journey brought their family to Bemidji, Minnesota where he became the head
volleyball coach.
 
Throughout the years, Kevin and Kate welcomed three sweet daughters into this world: Autumn, Hailey, and Elliette. Kevin loved his daughters deeply. He had a passion for his family, his volleyball community and living for Jesus. Kevin and his family attended Bemidji Covenant Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Dean Ulmer in 2021. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife Kate (Hampson) Ulmer, three daughters, Autumn, Hailey, and Elliette Ulmer; Mother, Wanda Ulmer; brother, Matt Ulmer (wife Diane); and sisters, Wendy (husband Derek), Amanda (husband Greg) and their children.

Bar 209 in Bemidji has offered to donate 20-percent of all sales Monday, Sept. 23 from 4-8 p.m.
