SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The RV/21 Bemidji State University Football program stopped the University of Sioux Falls' three-game win streak with a 28-24 victory Saturday afternoon in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Beavers grabbed three touchdowns through the air and one on the ground, plus
Joey Prondzinski's four PAT kicks.Â
Â
The Beavers shutout the Cougars in the first quarter.
Sam McGath and
Aundreus Griffin combined through from the Sioux Falls four-yard line to the endzone to grab the first six points of the game, followed by one more from
Joey Prondzinski on the extra-point attempt. The Beavers' original play did not work out the way intended, causing McGath to go searching for a target, ultimately finding Griffin who grabbed the reception one-handed in the endzone. Finishing out the quarter, the Beavers grabbed another seven points when
Justin Incaprera ran in for a one-yard score, his first one in the Green & White.Â
Â
Sioux Falls answered back in the second quarter, grabbing 17 points and the lead. The streak started with a 12-yard touchdown reception between Camden Dean and Travis Yohnke to get the Cougars on the board. They scored again, with just over four minutes remaining, on a Dean to Mark Leonard 49-yard reception, tying the game at 14 points each after a good point-after kick attempt from Nick Hernandez. On the Cougars last drive of the half, they were able to get within field goal range and grab three points with a 25-yard field goal from Hernandez.
Â
USF moved to 24 unanswered points early in the third quarter with a five-yard receiving touchdown to go up 24-14 over the Beavers. BSU answered back three minutes later with their own receiving touchdown, a 30-yard pass deep left from McGath to
Brice Peters, pulling within four. Prondzinski added his third PAT kick of the afternoon, making it 24-21.Â
Â
The Beavers claimed victory with 5:40 left in the game when McGath and Griffin combined for their second touchdown of the afternoon, this one much simpler than the first connection between the pair. Prondzinski's final PAT kick sailed through the uprights for the final score of the game, a 28-24 BSU lead.Â
Â
Bemidji State led Sioux Falls in almost every statistical category as well as on the scoreboard. Through the air, McGath connected with his receiving core for 263 yards (25-37-2) versus Camden Dean's 174 (12-19-1). On the ground, the Beavers made 39 rushing attempts for 154 net yards against the Cougars' 30 attempts for 112 yards.
Jacob Drietz led the Beavers on the defensive side of the ball, grabbing four solo tackles and one assisted for five total. He also marked half a tackle for a loss and one forced fumble. Additionally,
