BEMIDJI, Minn. – The No. 5/1 Ohio State University Women's Hockey team used a five-goal first period to defeat the Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team 8-2 Friday night at Sanford Center in the Beavers' 2024-25 season opener.

The game marked the first under new head coach
Amber Fryklund who was hired as the program's sixth head coach in April.

Hailey Armstrong and redshirt freshman
Isa Goettl scored each goal for the Beavers while
Genevieve Hendrickson,
Shelby Sandberg,
Riley Reeves and
Morgan Smith each recorded assists. Graduate goaltender
Josie Bothun made 26 saves in her debut for the Beavers.

Ohio State dominated play from the opening face-off scoring three goals within the first seven minutes including Makenna Webster's game-opening goal 2:02 into the first period. Josie St. Martin followed 4:01 later while Kiara Zanon made it 3-0 just 29 seconds after St. Martin's goal.

Jenna Buglioni would make it 4-0 with 7:41 to go in the period followed by Webster's second of the game just 1:21 later.

Jocelyn Amos extended the Buckeyes lead to six 2:24 into the second frame but Bemidji State responded halfway through the period when
Hailey Armstrong beat the Buckeyes' defense off a face-off and scored short-handed for the Beavers' first goal of the season.

Ohio State's Jordyn Petrie would score a power-play goal before the horn to end the second period but 4:52 into the third period, Goettl scored her first collegiate goal after batting home a loose puck in front of OSU goaltender Amanda Thiele.

The Buckeyes would add an eighth goal with 10:17 to play for the final tally of the game.

The Beavers drop their season-opening game to fall to 0-1-0 (0-1-0 WCHA) while the Buckeyes earn their first victory of the season to improve to 1-2-0 (1-2-0 WCHA).

The two teams meet again tomorrow afternoon for game two at Sanford Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:01 p.m., and fans can watch online at B1G+ or on their television sets on Fox9+.
