BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University freshman forward Morgan Smith was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Month for December announced by the league Thursday afternoon. Smith is the first BSU student-athlete to earn a monthly recognition this season and first since January of 2022.
 
Smith led the Beavers in scoring during December with three goals. The rookie netted all three goals on December 14 against Minnesota State for her first collegiate hat trick. Smith's hat trick marked the first by a Bemidji State rookie since 2020. The Beaver forward also earned her first WCHA Rookie of the Week honor on December 16. On the month, Smith scored two power-play goals and posted four shots on goal.
 
She was joined by Minnesota's Abbey Murphy (Forward) and Chloe Primerano (Defender) and Minnesota Duluth's Eve Gascon (Goaltender) and league monthly award winners.
 
Bemidji State will aim to regroup for their next game, addressing both offensive and power play execution.
