BSU makes trek to MSU and (RV) WSU

Beavers will travel to reigning NCAA Champions and current NSIC powerhouse Friday and Saturday

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Men's Basketball is set to travel to Mankato, Minn. and Winona, Minn. this Friday and Saturday to take on the Minnesota State University Mankato Mavericks and (RV) Winona State University Warriors to kick off a four-game road stint. 
 
Bemidji State Notes
  • The 6-8 Beavers sit in 11th place in the NSIC with a conference record of 3-5. The Beavers have taken two of the last three games with wins over University of Mary and Wayne State College.
  • Malang Athian and Tate Olson lead the Beavers with 151 points each, Athian averaging 11.6 points in his 13 games and Olson with 10.8 over his 14. Olson is the top field-goal shooter for BSU, marking a .483 shooting percentage and netting 8.6 per game. 
  • From the three-point line, Daxton Dayley has grabbed the top spot with a shooting percentage of .404. Dayley averages 3.7 three pointers per game with 123 total points under his belt so far this season. At the free-throw line, Athian leads with a .778 shooting percentage on 28 makes, averaging 2.2 made baskets per game. 
  • Olson finds himself atop the leaderboards in rebounds as well with 123 total rebounds. Averaging 8.8 total rebounds per game, he has grabbed 107 on defense and 16 on offense. He also leads in assists with 3.2 per game. 
  • Following this weekend, the Beavers travel to University of Minnesota Duluth and (RV) Concordia University St. Paul on Jan. 10 and 11. Both games will be available on the NSIC Network and Beaver Radio Network for streaming and listening. 
 
Minnesota State Notes
  • The reigning National Champions, MSU currently sits at 9-7 overall with a 5-3 conference record and holds sixth in the conference. The Mavericks have a 3-2 record in the past five games, dropping the most recent contest 75-72 to then No. 5 Minot State University. Following Friday's game, the Mavericks will host University of Minnesota Crookston at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. 
  • Kyreese Willingham leads the Mavericks with 16.9 points this season, 271 total. He is shooting at .466 from the field and .294 from the three-point line. Caden Kirkman is the top rebounder for MSU with 6.1 per game, averaging 4.4 per game on defense. 
 
Winona State Notes
  • RV Winona State has competed against some of the top teams in the NCAA but have only found the win column against then No. 21 Hillsdale College. Overall, the Warriors host an 11-4 record with 6-3 in the conference, marking fourth place. 
  • Luke Haertle has the top spot for the Warriors in scoring with 277 total points, averaging 18.5 per game. Shooting .459 percent from the field and .748 from the free-throw line, he has claimed the top spot in both categories as well. The Warriors' rebounding front is dominated by Isaiah Thompson with 9.6 rebounds per game for a total of 144.
