COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 2 Ohio State University defeated the Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team, 6-0 Friday evening in game one of their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series. OSU built an early lead with four first-period goals, including a power-play goal, and maintained control throughout to come away with the series opening victory.

The first period between Bemidji State and Ohio State began with the Buckeyes quickly taking control. Just 58 seconds into the game, Sanni Vanhanen scored the first goal for Ohio State, assisted by Sloane Matthews and Maxine Cimoroni. Moments later, Jocelyn Amos capitalized on a power-play opportunity, scoring at 1:54 with helpers from Kassidy Carmichael and Jenna Raunio to double the lead. Matthews extended the lead further to 3-0 at 4:21 with an even-strength goal, again assisted by Cimoroni. Amos then scored her second goal of the period at 13:03, this time unassisted, bringing Ohio State's lead to 4-0 by the end of the first frame. Bemidji State struggled to gain momentum, and Ohio State maintained a strong offensive presence throughout.

Ohio State extended its lead in the second period, adding two more goals. Jordyn Petrie scored at 7:11 with assists from Raunio and Macy Rasmussen, marking her second goal of the season. Sara Swiderski followed at 11:38, assisted by Mira Jungåker, to increase Ohio State's advantage to 6-0. Bemidji State's defense, including saves by
Kaitlin Groess and
Ava Hills, faced a barrage of shots throughout the period, with the Buckeyes consistently applying offensive pressure. Despite Bemidji State's efforts to block shots and change goalies, Ohio State maintained control heading into the final period.

The third frame saw Ohio State maintain defensive control against Bemidji State, holding its six-goal lead throughout. The Buckeyes were active offensively, as Matthews and Hilda Svensson contributed multiple shots, but Bemidji State's goaltender, Hills, consistently made saves to prevent further scoring. Despite Bemidji State's efforts on the power play, including attempts from
Maddie Kaiser and
Kate Johnson, they were unable to find the back of the net. The period concluded without any changes to the score, sealing Ohio State's comprehensive victory.

Bemidji State falls to 2-3-0 overall and 0-3-0 in conference play while the second-ranked Buckeyes improved to 3-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference. Game two between the two teams will begin at 2:02 p.m. CST tomorrow afternoon.
