DULUTH, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team fell to the University of Minnesota Duluth 5-1 Saturday evening in their non-conference series finale at AMSOIL Arena. UMD capitalized on power plays, scoring four of their five goals with the man advantage. Bemidji State managed to find the net once in the third period but was unable to overcome the deficit.

Kasper Magnussen scored the Beavers lone goal of the game, the first of the season for the junior. Freshman
Max Hildebrand made 31 saves in net but earns his second consecutive loss.

The first period between Bemidji State and UMD concluded without any scoring, despite several attempts on goal from both sides. Bemidji State's goaltender, Hildebrand, made multiple saves, including notable stops on shots from Callum Arnott and Kyler Kovich. UMD's Adam Gajan also remained solid in goal, denying scoring chances from Bemidji State's
Oliver Peer and
Jaksen Panzer. Bemidji State successfully killed a two-minute holding penalty against
Hudson Thornton, maintaining a scoreless stalemate. Each team had opportunities, but neither could capitalize, leading to a 0-0 score at the end of the period.

Bemidji State faced pressure early in the second period as UMD peppered their goaltender, Hildebrand, with shots, but he stood firm, making multiple saves. At 17:42, Bemidji State penalized for interference, giving UMD a power play. Jayson Shaugabay capitalized on the man advantage, scoring at 11:00 with helpers from Ty Hanson and Zam Plante, putting the home team ahead 1-0. Bemidji State's penalty troubles continued, allowing Shaugabay to strike again at even strength with just 30 seconds left in the frame, assisted again by Hanson. UMD ended the period with a 2-0 lead.

Bemidji State drew an interference penalty at 16:01, allowing the Bulldogs to capitalize with a power-play goal by Zam Plante at 14:35, assisted by Hanson, extending their lead to 4-0. Bemidji State responded with Magnussen scoring at 11:19, assisted by
Vincent Labelle and
Luke Roelofs, to make it 4-1. However, another power-play opportunity arose for the Bulldogs, and Callum Arnott converted at 4:59, with assists from Max Plante and Shaugabay, furthering the lead to 5-1. Ryan Zaremba sealed the win for the Bulldogs with a power-play goal at 1:22, assisted by Hunter Anderson, concluding the scoring at 5-1.

Bemidji State now drops to 2-4-0 while UMD improves to 5-1-0 for the season. The Beavers begin Central Collegiate Hockey Association play next weekend by hosting Augustana University at Sanford Center.
