BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University travels to Wayne, Neb. Saturday, Oct. 11 for a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchup against the Wayne State College Wildcats, looking to continue on the success of their first win last weekend.
Bemidji State Notes
- The Beavers were able to secure their first win of the season last Saturday in a 24-21 Homecoming win over Northern State University. This marked the team's 22nd Homecoming lake-jump-earning victory in the past 30 years.
- Wide receiver Jake Hill returned from injury Saturday in dramatic fashion, scoring on a 44-yard pass from Connor Carver to give the Beavers a 24-14 lead late in the fourth quarter.
- The Beaver offense is led on the ground by redshirt sophomore quarterback Connor Carver with 431 net yards on 65 attempts, averaging 6.6 yards per rush and 71.83 per game. He has earned four rushing touchdowns for the Beavers.
- Redshirt freshman quarterback Bart McAninch leads the game through the air, going 48-71-3 for a 67.61 completion percentage with two touchdown passes. He has earned two passing touchdowns for the Beavers with an average of 89.0 passing yards per game.
- Drayton Lehman has become the top target out of the Beaver wide receivers, marking 30 catches for 290 yards, averaging 48.33 per game with 9.67 per catch. Jake Hill's first game back landed him the second longest reception of the year at 44 yards, his only reception earning a touchdown.
- Defensively, Caden Bolte leads the way with 31 solo and 11 assisted tackles for a grand total of 42. He has added three tackles for a loss of four total yards, seven pass breakups and one quarterback hurry.
- The Beavers' leading scorer and top kicker, Connor Mantelli, has totaled 26 points for the Green & White. This includes a perfect four-for-four on field goals and 14 PAT kicks made on 15 attempts. Mantelli averages 40.28 yards per punt on 25 attempts and 55.9 yards per kick on 24 kickoff attempts.
- BSU takes next week off before returning home to host University of Jamestown on Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.
Wayne State Notes
- The Wildcats enter the weekend at 3-3 after falling to Winona State, 21-14, last week in Winona. This weekend starts a two-week homestand for WSC with a week-seven bye in between. They'll host No. 14/9 Minnesota State University Mankato on Oct. 25.
- The Wildcats average 27 points per game and have held opponents to an average of 17.50 per game. The team's run game averages 188.8 yards and 157.83 through the air per game. WSC grabs an average of 346.7 yards of total offense.
- Redshirt junior running back Dawson Forgy leads the ground game with 121.17 yards per game, totaling seven touchdowns and 5.9 yards per rush.
- Sophomore quarterback Bennett Dannenbring is the leader through the air with a 55.05 completion, going 60-109-6 with seven touchdown passes and 562 yards.
- Dannenbring's top receiver is Dane Petersen who's grabbed 22 catches for 235 yards, averaging 10.68 per catch and 39.17 per game. He is responsible for five of the team's 11 receiving touchdowns.
- Jes Krcil leads the Wildcat defense with 53 total tackles, 20 more than his next closest teammate. He has totaled a team-leading 25 solo and 28 assisted tackles this season, including 10 tackles for a loss of 38 total yards, 3.5 sacks, two pass breakups, three quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles.
- The kicking and punting efforts for WSC are split with Jacob Borrall punting (30 punts for 1205 total yards) and Boston Hensley on field goals (2-6 with a long of 34 yards) and on kickoffs (29 for 1708 yards with 10 touchbacks and one out of bounds).
