MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team fell to No. 2 University of Minnesota, 9–2, in game two of their Western Collegiate Hockey Association game at Minneapolis on Saturday. The Beavers managed to net both goals in the second period but faced an overwhelming offensive barrage from the Gophers, who fired 63 total shots on goal.
Maddie Kaiser scored one goal on her only shot attempt.
Morgan Smith also found the back of the net, recording one goal and winning 14 faceoffs to maintain possession.
Isa Goettl added an assist while blocking three shots and winning seven faceoffs. Additionally,
Ava Hills made 49 saves in goal, showcasing her defensive capabilities in net.
The first period began with Minnesota winning the initial faceoff and quickly applying pressure, leading to Emma Kreisz scoring at 4:30 with assists from Josefin Bouveng and Abbey Murphy. The Gophers continued to dominate, extending their lead to 2–0 at 6:11 when Chloe Primerano found the net, assisted by Madison Kaiser and Ava Lindsay. Bemidji State and Minnesota engaged in an eventful second period, with Hills making critical saves for the Beavers amidst a barrage of shots from the Gophers, including a power-play goal by Anabella Fanale at 11:04. The Beavers responded swiftly as
Maddie Kaiser netted a goal at 9:53, assisted by Goettl and
Izy Fairchild. The momentum continued for Bemidji State when Smith scored at 8:21, narrowing the gap to 4–2. However, the Gophers' Jamie Nelson reestablished a three-goal lead at 7:22, concluding the period with a 5–2 advantage for Minnesota.
Minnesota extended their lead in the third period, scoring four goals against Bemidji State. Fanale opened the period with a goal at 18:28, assisted by Plosova and Nelson. Lindsay followed with a goal at 16:49, with assists from Murphy and Bouveng. Sydney Morrow found the back of the net at 13:04, assisted by Fanale and Sienna D'Alessandro, and Sydney Bailey capped the scoring at 11:20 with the help of Avery Hovland and Nelli Laitinen. Despite the Beavers' efforts, including a power play opportunity, they were unable to penetrate Minnesota's defense, concluding the game with a 9-2 loss.
Bemidji State holds a record of 3-8-1 overall and 1-8-1 in conference play. The Gophers improve to 12-2-0 overall and 8-2-0 in conference action, maintaining their strong position in the standings.
