Beavers host Cougars for first regular-season home matchup

Monday slates BSU against UMM for first home game of the regular season

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University Women's Basketball hosts University of Minnesota Morris at 6 p.m. Monday evening. 
 
The Beavers enter the week on a high after taking down Valley City State University 81-68 last Friday. The Beavers played two exhibition matches prior, defeating North Central University 93-67 and Augsburg University 92-56. Following Monday's matchup, the Beavers will get their first taste of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play by traveling to Duluth, Minn. on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. to take on University of Minnesota Duluth. 
 
Last Friday, the Beavers took down the Vikings 81-68, led by senior forward Kassandra Caron's 25-point performance. Additionally, Caron added six defensive rebounds while shooting .588 from the field. Gabrielle Fineday leads the team with a .500 shooting percentage from the arc, going one-for-two. Under the rim, Aubrey Heyer leads with a 9.0-rebounds-per-game average. She grabbed four on offense and five on defense against Valley City State. Evyn Eppinga and Sam Veto lead the team in assists with three each. Veto also leads with two steals already this season.
 
The Cougars have struggled to find the win column this season, starting off 1-4 with a current two-game losing streak. Last week, the Cougars started the week with a 76-62 win over Macalester College but then fell to Concordia College 85-56 and St. Catherine University 84-76. UMM is scheduled to compete in seven more non-conference matchups after BSU, starting UMAC play on Jan. 7. 
 
Junior guard Maddy Grove leads the Cougars with 18.4 points per game, totaling 92 this season. She is leading the team with a .487 shooting percentage from the field and is .273 from the arc. Anna Myers leads from the arc at 40 percent, grabbing eight three pointers this season. Under the basket, Gianna Klarenbeek leads with 29 total rebounds, averaging 5.8 per game with 5.0 defensive rebounds per game. She also leads in assist with 3.4 per game. 
 
Monday's matchup is available for streaming on the NSIC Network and for listening on the Beaver Radio Network. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time on the BSU Beavers website or in person at the door.
