BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Men's Hockey completed its sweep of Northern Michigan University with a 6–2 decisive victory Saturday in their Central Collegiate Hockey Associate series finale at Sanford Center. The Beavers capitalized on special teams, scoring three power-play goals and adding a short-handed tally.
Junior
Oliver Peer netted a hat trick to lead the Beavers to victory marking the first time in BSU's DI era that two Beavers scored hat tricks on back-to-back nights. It is the first time since Feb. 2-3, 1991 in the program's all-time history.
Bemidji State's head coach,
Tom Serratore, reflected on the 6-2 victory over NMU, emphasizing the impact of special teams in the game. "It was a nail biter, our special teams got us through," Serratore noted. He acknowledged the opponent's strength at even strength, stating, "They were as good, if not better, 5-on-5 than us tonight. It was our power play that bailed us out." Bemidji State capitalized on power play opportunities and secured a pivotal shorthanded goal in the third period. "When they got it to one, it was a big power play goal obviously in the third," Serratore added, noting the importance of maintaining a lead. In the final period, Bemidji State returned to their patient style, which Serratore credited for their success.
Oliver Peer led the team with three goals, including a game-winning power-play goal, and achieved a 78% success rate in faceoffs.
Max Namestnikov contributed offensively with one goal, a short-handed marker, and recorded three shots on goal.
Adam Flammang added three assists, boosting his team's offensive efforts.
Kasper Magnussen also scored twice, with both goals coming on the power play, and added an assist to his tally.
The first period began with Bemidji State's Peer winning the initial faceoff against NMU's Jakub Altrichter. Bemidji State took the lead at 3:14 when Peer scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Flammang and
Mitch Wolfe. NMU struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, despite having a power play midway through the period. The period ended with Bemidji State maintaining a 1–0 lead.
The Wildcats took an early lead just 12 seconds into the second period with a power-play goal by Matthew Argentina, assisted by Altrichter and Joe Schiller. Bemidji State quickly responded, leveling the score at 1:40 with a power-play goal from Magnussen, assisted by Peer and
Hudson Thornton. Bemidji State seized the lead at 13:30 when Peer netted another power-play goal, with assists from
Reilly Funk and
Connor McClennon. NMU cut the deficit to one with a penalty shot goal by Altrichter at 12:34, ending the period with a 3–2 score in favor of Bemidji State.
Bemidji State extended its lead early in the third period with a power-play goal from Magnussen at 19:06, assisted by Flammang and Thornton. The home team then capitalized on a shorthanded opportunity when Namestnikov netted an unassisted goal at 12:12, increasing the margin to three. Bemidji State sealed the victory with an empty-net goal from Peer at 5:30, assisted by Flammang and Magnussen, completing Peer's hat trick. The period ended with a 6–2 win for Bemidji State over NMU, with the home team scoring three unanswered goals in the final frame.
Bemidji State finished 3-for-6 on the power play marking the first time since Feb. 8, 2025 that BSU scored three-or-more power play goals in game.
Junior
Raythan Robbins earned his second straight victory improving his season total to five after stopping 19-of-21 shots. He is now 5-1-2 on the season.
The Beavers are now 9-5-2 (7-1-2 CCHA) and increase their lead in the CCHA standings to four holding 23 points in league play. BSU will take a break from league action however, with a non-conference home-and-home series with University of North Dakota.
