BSU enters the thick of conference play with MSUM and UMC

Beavers play home-and-home series against MSUM and UMC Thursday and Saturday

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University Women's Basketball is set to host Minnesota State University Moorhead Thursday before heading on the road to University of Minnesota Crookston Saturday afternoon.
 
Bemidji State Notes
  • Last weekend, the Beavers split their schedule at the University of Tampa Thanksgiving Classic, defeating Florida Institute of Technology 68-58 and falling to the hosts 66-49. 
  • The Beavers opened Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play earlier last week with a trip to University of Minnesota Duluth where they were downed by the Bulldogs, 74-63. 
  • Senior Kassandra Caron leads BSU in scoring this season, averaging 17.6 points per game with a total of 88 across five games. She leads from the field at .460 percent and is the top free-throw shooter with 25 makes and a .781 shooting percentage. Caron is also tied for the top spot in blocks with three and in steals with eight. 
  • From the three-point arc, Tieryn Plasch leads the charge with a .303 shooting percentage. Landing 10 this season, Plasch has accumulated the third-most points on the team at 55, 30 coming from behind the arc. She also leads the team in assists with 2.8 per game and is tied with Caron for steals. 
  • Following this weekend, the Beavers stay on the road for two more games, playing the University of Jamestown for the first time since the Jimmies entered the NSIC and at Northern State University. 
 
MSU Moorhead Notes
  • The Dragons sit at 4-1 overall with a 1-0 record in the NSIC. After falling in their first matchup of the season, the Dragons have gone 4-0 over their last four games. Most recently, MSUM took down University of Alaska Fairbanks by a dominating score of 112-63 in Moorhead. 
  • Freshman guard Abby John leads the team in scoring with 13.2 points per game, totaling 66 in five games. Of that 66, 15 have come from the arc with John making .417 percent of shots from the three-point line. She also leads the team in free-throw shooting at .810 percent which has landed her in seventh in the NSIC. 
 
Minnesota Crookston Notes
  • The Golden Eagles have struggled to find the win column this season, posting a 1-5 record with a lone win over Black Hills State University in mid-November. 
  • Emma Miller holds the top scoring spot this season, posting an average of 20.7 points per game. She leads the team from the field, shooting at .391 percent. She also leads the team in assists and steals this season.
