Beavers make trip to Massachusetts for first-ever meeting with Merrimack

BSU Women’s Hockey returns to action with non-conference series at Merrimack

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The holiday break is over and the Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team is set to begin the second half of the 2025-26 season and ring in the new year with a non-conference series at Merrimack College, Jan. 3-4.
 
The Beavers (4-12-2) meet the Warriors (3-14-1) for the first time in the two program's histories and clash for a non-conference series at Lawler Arena in North Andover, Mass. The two teams begin their series Saturday, Jan. 3 with game one and then play game two Sunday. Each game of the series will begin at 6 p.m. CST.
 
Each game will be streamed exclusively online via StretchInternet.com. A Beaver Radio Network broadcast will not be available for the weekend series.
 
Bemidji State Notes
  • The Beavers return to action to begin the second half of the season after going 4-12-2 in the first 18 games.
  • Bemidji State is returning from a 27-day break and last played Dec. 5-6.
  • The Beavers are looking to snap a four-game winless streak (0-3-1) dating back to Nov. 28.
  • BSU is also looking for its first road win of the season going 0-6-2 when playing on the road during the first half.
  • The Beavers play their final non-conference series of the season at Merrimack and have 14 WCHA games before the WCHA Playoffs being Feb. 27.
  • Sophomore Morgan Smith leads the team with 13 points (6g-7a) through 18 games.
  • Junior captain Hailey Armstrong paces the Beavers with nine goals in 18 games. Her nine goals are tied for 14th in the WCHA.
  • Junior Kate Johnson leads the team with 10 assists and is tied for second on the team with Armstrong with 11 points.
  • Junior Carmen Bray leads the Beavers' blueline with six points off six assists.
  • Head coach Amber Fryklund has split time in net between senior Ava Hills and sophomore Kaitlin Groess.
  • Groess leads the team with a 3.84 goals against average and a 3-7-1 record while HIlls paces the team with a .900 save percentage and is 1-5-1.
  • Hills leads the WCHA averaging 29.9 saves per game while Groess is fifth (25.0).
  • Bemidji State's penalty kill ranks 4th in the WCHA and 15th nationally with a penalty-kill percentage of at .844 (38-45) and has not allowed a power-play goal since Nov. 28.
  • The Beavers have successfully killed off their last 13 opponent power plays.
  • Redshirt sophomore Isa Goettl leads the team scoring three of the Beavers' six power-play goals.
  • Hailey Armstrong's three game-winning goals this season and is tied for fifth most in the WCHA. She is two shy of tying a program career record from most game-winning goals.
  • Bemidji State leads the WCHA and is 20th nationally with 250 blocked shots.
  • Freshman defender Katy Comstock is tied for the WCHA lead with 33 blocked shots despite her 5-foot 0-inch stature.
  • Junior Raeley Carney leads the team and is eighth in the WCHA with a .557 face-off winning percentage. She boasts a .644 (56-87) winning percentage over the last seven games.
  • The Beavers are in year two under the leadership of head coach Amber Fryklund.
  • She has brought in 11 newcomers to the green and white including transfers Carmen Bray (St. Cloud State) and Elly Klepinger (Minnesota).
  • Junior Hailey Armstrong will captain the Beavers during the 2025-26 season and will be assisted by Smith and senior Raeley Carney.
  • Eight freshmen join the team in Senja Leeper (Minnetonka HS), Lola Macuiba (Shawnigan Lake School), Kasey Senden (Hill-Murray HS), Addie Morris (Benilde-St. Margaret's), Paige Smith (Edmonton Jr. Oilers), Maddie Kaiser (Balmoral Hall Prep), Katy Comstock (Warroad HS) and Ashlyn Hazlett (Minnetonka HS).
