BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Women's Hockey student-athletes
Eva Filippova and
Morgan Smith were each recognized by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for their efforts helping the Beavers to a series split at (RV) University of St. Thomas.
Â
Sophomore
Eva Filippova was tabbed the WCHA Goaltender of the Week for the first time this season and second of her career while freshman
Morgan Smith was named the league's Rookie of the Week for the third time.
Â
Filippova led the Beavers in between the pipes against the Tommies and collected her second career shutout after stopping all 27 shots she faced in Friday's 5-0 victory. She then stopped 12-of-13 shots Saturday in 30:44 of playing time before leaving the game due to injury. Over the weekend, the Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia native posted a .975 save percentage and 0.66 goals against average.
Â
Smith led Bemidji State forwards recording four points off three goals and an assist in the Beavers' series at the Tommies. She collected an assist in Friday's victory and then became just the second BSU Women's Hockey student-athlete to record multiple hat tricks in a season by scoring all three goals in Saturday's 4-3 loss.
Â
Joining the duo was Minnesota Duluth's Tova Henderson (Defender) and Clara Van Wieren (Forward) as league weekly award winners.
Â
The pair mark the sixth and seventh WCHA weekly award winners for Bemidji State this season (Armstrong, Groess, Smith 3x, Deering, Filippova).
Â
The Beavers will now head back to Bemidji, Minn., and prepare for their regular season finale against No. 1 University of Wisconsin at Sanford Center. BSU will be honoring its seven senior during the weekend with a special senior ceremony following game two Saturday.
