BSU falls to CSP leading into final game of regular season

Beavers drop Friday matchup to Golden Bears 100-86

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University (10-17) fell to Concordia University, St. Paul (20-7) with a final score of 100-86 on Friday in Bemidji on Pink Out Night. 
 
In the first half, Bemidji State started strong with John Pecarich scoring three free throws at 19:24 to tie the game early. Tate Olson contributed with a jumper at 18:39, maintaining a tight score, and later added a tip-in at 12:17 to keep the team in reach. John Sutherland capitalized on Bemidji State's offensive rebounds, converting key layups, including one at the 4:22 mark, as he helped narrow the gap. Bemidji State trailed Concordia-St. Paul by a score of 54-47 at the end of the half, with Pecarich leading a late push by scoring a 3-pointer at 3:55 and following it up with a layup and free throw to bring the home team's score closer.
 
In the second half, Bemidji State started strong with John Sutherland leading the charge, scoring a layup and a jumper in the first few minutes. A notable streak occurred midway through the half when Malang Athian hit two consecutive 3-pointers, cutting the deficit to one point at 15:30. Tate Olson also contributed significantly with fast-break layups, helping BSU briefly take the lead at 15:02. Despite these efforts, CSP pulled ahead later in the half, closing with a 46-39 advantage.
 
John Pecarich led Bemidji State with an impressive 27 points on 10-for-17 shooting, including two 3-pointers and five free throws. John Sutherland also had a strong performance, scoring 26 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, going 11-for-14 from the field, adding yet another double-double to his record. Tate Olson contributed significantly with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds while also adding three assists, marking another double-double in his career. Malang Athian added 11 points, highlighted by making three of four 3-point attempts.
 
Bemidji State holds an overall record of ten wins and seventeen losses, with a conference record of seven wins and fourteen losses in the NSIC. The Golden Bears have achieved an overall record of twenty wins and seven losses, with a conference record of fifteen wins and six losses in the NSIC.
 
Up next, Bemidji State will face the University of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The 2025 senior class will be recognized prior to tipoff starting around 3:15 p.m. The Beavers have clinched a spot in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament and will travel to an undecided opponent next Wednesday.
