BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team was tied with William Jewell College after five innings Friday afternoon but the Cardinals scored nine unanswered runs including a six-run seventh inning to pull away from the Beavers and claim a 11-2 series opening victory.
Bemidji State started the game hot when senior
Zach Evenson blasted his first home run of the season with a solo shot in the first inning.
Senior
Brandon Lind held the Cardinals scoreless through the first two innings but a two-run home run by WJC in the third put them in front by a run.
Junior
Adrian Falcon responded in the next winning with a triple in the Beaverrs second at bat of the inning and junior
Hunter Hyden drove him home with an RBI single to tie the game.
William Jewell retook its lead in the bottom of the fourth and never gave it up going on to score the game's next nine runs to claim the game one victory 11-2.
Lind finished the game going six innings and allowed four runs off eight hits, four walks but tied a career-high with nine strikeouts. He was replaced by
Marcus Haire,
Bret Inman and
Connor Donlin who pitched the final two innings.
The Beavers collected five hits at the plate with Evenson, Falcon, Hyden,
Matt Filippi and
Jack Feldman all recording hits.
The two teams will be back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. and then close their four-game series Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
