BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Men's Basketball is set to host the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Gophers Tuesday evening at the BSU Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. with a special celebration of this week's Special Olympics Athlete of the Week, Athoney Smith, during starting lineups.
Bemidji State Notes
- The Beavers enter Tuesday's matchup at 8-14 overall and 5-11 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference after an 88-76 victory over the University of Mary last Thursday in Bemidji. They hold spot number 12 in the conference, followed closely by the Golden Eagles in 13th.
- Last Thursday, John Sutherland marked a season high in points scored, grabbing 26 with a shooting percentage of .813 from the field. He also tabbed eight assists, just one less than his career-high set Tuesday evening in St. Cloud. Sutherland led the NSIC in assists per game last week.
- John Pecarich also had a stand-out game Thursday, netting 24 points while shooting .667 percent from the three-point line and going 7-11 in the field and 4-4 at the free-throw line. He also earned four rebounds, one assist and two steals in the win over the Huskies.
- Tate Olson marked his eighth double double of the season against the Huskies, grabbing 17 points and 12 rebounds. On top of this, he shot .700 percent from the field and marked three assists and a steal.
- Collectively, the Beavers had their best field-goal shooting game of the season against the Huskies, marking a shooting percentage of .618 percent by netting 34-of-55 shots.
- On Saturday, BSU heads to Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. to play the final solo game of the season before returning to dual game weekends to close the season.
Minnesota Crookston Notes
- Holding 13th place in the NSIC, the Golden Eagles are 5-17 overall with a conference record of 4-12.
- The Golden Eagles went on an eight-game losing streak that began late December and ended with an overtime, 74-71 win over Augustana University on Jan. 25. Since then, UMC took down then No. 17 Minot State University and fell to University of Mary by a point last Saturday.
- Reid Grant leads Minnesota Crookston in an abundance of categories this season including scoring (16.4 points per game), field-goal shooting (.390 percent, 130-333), three-point field goal shooting (.322 percent, 49-152) and assists (4.5 assists per game). On the rebounding front, Jordan Mitchell leads the team at 6.4 per game with a 22-game total of 141.
- Following Tuesday's game, UMC will host NSU Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Crookston.
