SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team (1-9, 0-4 NSIC) faced a tough series against Augustana University (9-3, 6-2 NSIC) over the weekend and into Monday, suffering losses in all four games at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. The final scores were 16-3, 15-0, 11-0, and 14-4, showcasing the Vikings' offensive dominance throughout the series.
In the first game, Augustana quickly established a lead with a two-run single by Siegel in the first inning, and they extended their advantage to 11-0 by the fourth, highlighted by a six-run inning. Bemidji State found some momentum in the fifth with a two-run homer by
Hunter Hyden, marking his first of the season, but could not recover.
Derek Hoffman pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing 11 hits and nine runs, while
Sawyer Nendick stood out in relief with a scoreless inning.
The second game saw Bemidji State being shut out 15-0, with Augustana again scoring early. The Beavers struggled at the plate, recording no hits as
Josh Haugen pitched four innings, giving up seven runs, and
Cayden Cincis added two innings of relief.
Chris Koscielniak was active behind the plate, managing six stolen base attempts against him.
In the third game, the Beavers fell 11-0, unable to score while Augustana piled on runs through a mix of wild pitches and timely hits.
Brandon Lind pitched admirably, allowing three earned runs over four innings, but the offense was stifled.
Beau Thoma led the Beavers with two hits, but the team failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
The final game of the series saw Bemidji State lose 14-4, despite showing some offensive life with a home run from
Matt Filippi and additional runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Thoma contributed significantly with three hits and an RBI, while Filippi added two RBIs from his homer. On the pitching side,
Beau Barry struck out four batters but was challenged by walks and runs allowed.
