BSU Men’s Hockey captain Jackson Jutting earns top defensive forward award

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Men's Hockey fifth-year senior captain Jackson Jutting has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's Defensive Forward of the Year announced by the league Wednesday morning.

The fifth-year senior captain for the Beavers was voted by league coaches as the league's top defensive forward after leading the Beavers with 12 goals during the regular season and finished with 18 points playing in all 34 games. In conference games, Jutting finished the conference season tied for sixth among league forward with 10 goals.

He is head coach Tom Serratore's top centerman taking the ice in all situations (power play, penalty kill, leading, trailing, etc.). He is tied for seventh in the league with three game-winning goals and tied for second with seven power-play tucks.

Jutting dominated the face-off dot taking 602 face-offs in conference play, 40 more than the next skater. In all 37 games this season, Jutting is third in all of Division I with 872 face-offs taken. He boasts a .510 winning percentage and is the lone skater in the CCHA with 400 or more face-off wins (445). His 445 face-off wins are the most by a CCHA center since David Silye of Minnesota State had 451 during the 2022-23 season.

Jutting and the rest of the Beavers play to keep their season alive this weekend and travel south to Mankato, Minn., to take on long-time rival, Minnesota State for the CCHA Mason Cup Semifinal Saturday, March. 15. Tickets for the single-elimination game can be purchased here, and Beaver fans can use code SEMI25 for select tickets within the Beavers visiting sections (100, 200). Puck drop is scheduled for 7:07 p.m.

With a win, the Beavers will advance to their third CCHA Mason Cup Championship appearance in four seasons and are seeking the program's first-ever CCHA Mason Cup Championship and automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Men's Hockey Tournament.
