BSU swept by CSP in conference opener

Bemidji State fell 13-2 and 10-2 to Concordia-St. Paul Friday afternoon in Roseville, Minn.

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Bemidji State University Softball fell to Concordia University, St. Paul in both games Friday afternoon. BSU fell 10-2 in the first and 13-2 in the second matchup, starting Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play with a 0-2 record.
 
In game one, Calleigh Richards made a strong impact for Bemidji State, contributing both offensively and defensively. She recorded one hit, one run, and one RBI, while also drawing a walk. Aimee Christenson showed prowess at the plate, going 2-for-2, making her a key offensive player. Molly Houts added to the team's performance with a triple and an RBI. Notably, Houts tied the program career record for sacrifice flies at 8, underlining her consistent ability to contribute offensively. 
 
Kennedy Joachim pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs, six of which were earned, while striking out two and walking one. Joachim faced 16 batters, threw 59 pitches with 38 strikes, and gave up two home runs and one double. Danica Sarff relieved and pitched 3 2/3 innings, yielding three hits and three earned runs while striking out four and walking one. Sarff also faced 15 batters, throwing 68 pitches with 46 strikes, and allowed one home run and two doubles.
 
In game two, Payton Prissel pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and four earned runs while striking out three and walking four. She faced 12 batters, throwing 45 pitches with 22 strikes. Elle Hastings appeared in relief, pitching three innings and giving up nine hits and eight earned runs, striking out three without issuing any walks. Keira Lucero contributed by pitching 1/3 of an inning, conceding one hit and one earned run, with three walks and one strikeout.
 
Molly Houts delivered a solid performance for Bemidji State, going 1-for-2 at the plate with one run scored and adding a stolen base, although she was also caught stealing once. Mariah Stevenson contributed with a hit in two at-bats and scored a run, while also recording an assist from her position at third base. Morgan Benedict made an offensive impact with a 1-for-2 outing, driving in one run, and defensively, she caught one runner stealing from her catcher position. With this, Morgan Benedict tied the program's career "caught stealing by" record with 23, a record previously held by Courtney O'Connor and Lexi Derrick.
 
Bemidji State now holds an overall record of 13-13 and is 0-2 in NSIC conference play. The Golden Bears have a 9-13 overall record and are 2-0 within the conference. Bemidji State now travels to Marshall, Minn. to take on Southwest Minnesota State University Saturday afternoon.
