Beavers swept by No. 14 Vikings

Bemidji State drops pair of NSIC matches to Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Bemidji State University Softball was swept by No. 14 Augustana University in two games Sunday afternoon. 
 
In game one, Aubrey Aukerman led Bemidji State with two hits and one RBI. Jackie Larsen scored one of the team's runs and recorded a hit, while Molly Houts reached base and scored a run by drawing a walk. On the mound, Kennedy Joachim pitched three innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs while striking out three batters. 
 
Bemidji State's Danica Sarff pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs, striking out three batters and walking two. Payton Prissel made a brief appearance, pitching 1/3 inning and giving up two earned runs on one hit and one hit-by-pitch. Joachim conceded a total of three earned runs on four hits and struck out three with no walks. Despite their efforts, Bemidji State's pitchers allowed a total of five home runs throughout the game. 
 
Alexa Christenson's start in this game was particularly noteworthy as it moved her to the top of the BSU Softball record book with 194 career starts, a record previously held by Christenson's former teammate Elaina Christiansen.
 
In game two, Kennedy Joachim started on the mound for the Beavers, pitching 1 1/3 innings and allowing four hits, three earned runs, and one home run, while not issuing any walks or strikeouts. Danica Sarff took over in relief, delivering a strong performance over 4 2/3 innings, conceding just one hit and one earned run with two walks and four strikeouts. Sarff's effort included 68 pitches, of which 39 were strikes, and she managed to hold the opposing team to only one home run.
 
Mariah Stevenson led the team's offense with two hits in three at-bats, demonstrating her effectiveness at the plate with no strikeouts. Joachim, despite giving up three earned runs and a home run in 1 1/3 innings pitched, contributed a hit in her single at-bat. Jackie Larsen contributed defensively with two putouts in center field and added a stolen base, despite going hitless in three at-bats.
 
Bemidji State holds an overall record of 16-26 with a conference record of 3-15 in the NSIC. AU has achieved an overall record of 37-9 and a record of 19-3 in the conference. The Beavers are set to host the Minot State University Beavers and University of Mary Marauders this coming weekend at the BSU Softball Field. Saturday's matchup against UMary will celebrate the 2025 BSU Softball graduating class.
