BSU looks for first win of the season at Battle of the Beavers

Winless teams battle to see who will earn their first win of the season during week four


BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University travels to Minot State University Saturday afternoon for the Battle of the Beavers with both teams fighting for their first win of the season. 
 
Bemidji State Notes
  • The Beavers have been unable to find footing through the first four games of the season, marking a 0-4 overall record and 0-3 in the NSIC.
  • The Beaver offense has found success in redshirt freshman quarterback Bart McAninch who posted a career-best game against Augustana with 13 completions on 23 attempts for 157 yards and a touchdown. He also added 11 yards on the ground through two attempts. McAninch has grabbed a 127.63 quarterback rating with a 60% completion percentage. He averages 54.00 yards per game in three appearances. 
  • Bemidji State averages around 17.75 points per game and allows 39.00. 
  • Quarterback Connor Carver leads the Beavers' rushing attempts with 46 attempts and 224 yards with two touchdowns. Justin Incaprera has matched his touchdown numbers with just 39 yards netted. 
  • Drayton Lehman leads the wide receivers room with 147 total receiving yards on 18 attempts, averaging 8.17 per target and 36.75 per game. 
  • Caden Bolte, who is ranked 33rd in the NCAA for solo tackles per game with 22 total in four games, leads the team with 26 total tackles. He's followed close behind by Gabe Ward with 22 total tackles. 
  • Owen Dukowitz leads the team in tackles behind the line of scrimmage, marking 3.5 for 8 yards with half a sack and one interception. 
  • Connor Mantelli leads the Beavers' special teams with 19 punts for 745 yards, 15 kickoffs for 895 and by going three-for-three on field goals.
  • Next week, the Beavers return home for the annual Homecoming game with hopes of jumping into Lake Bemidji after defeating Northern State University.  
Minot State Notes
  • Minot State sits in a similar spot to Bemidji State, sitting winless at 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the NSIC. Last weekend, the Beavers fell 35-25 at Winona State University. 
  • The MSU run game is led by sophomore Devan Daniels who has marked 405 net rushing yards and a touchdown. Redshirt senior Evan Lovett leads scoring on the ground with four touchdowns, taking second in rushing yards with 307 yards. 
  • MSU's offense through the air is where the team struggles, marking just 26 passing attempts and nine completions for 197 yards. They have been able to find the endzone just twice. Quarterback Carson Chrisman leads this charge with all nine completions and a 104.99 passing rating. 
  • Tyler Johnson leads the Beavers' receivers with 55 yards, averaging 13.75 per game on three targets. Gage Cavanaugh and Jonathan Noriega have been the Beavers' lone scoring receivers. 
  • Brayan Augustin leads the Minot State defense with 23 total tackles, marking 16 solo and 7 assisted. He's also marked 2.5 tackles for a loss of 11 yards and 1.5 sacks for 10 yards. Julian Kameristy has matched Augustin's TFL total with just six yards.
  • MSU specialists split time on the field with Logan Matthews marking 11 punts for 528 yards, Brandon McCary going two-for-three on field goals and Evan Norberg grabbing 14 kickoffs for 849 yards, marking five touchbacks and one kick out of bounds. 
  • Next week, the Beavers head to Minnesota State University Mankato to take on the Dragons with a noon kickoff.
