Tommies complete sweep of Beavers Saturday

BSU Women’s Hockey falls 4-1 in series finale at St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team fell to University of St. Thomas, 4–1, Saturday afternoon in game two of their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series. Bemidji State took an early lead with a first-period goal by Isa Goettl but was unable to maintain momentum as St. Thomas responded with two goals in each of the first two periods.

Goettl scored the one goal, her sixth of the season while junior Kate Johnson collected her team-leading 11th assist and junior Elly Klepinger added her first assist and point as a Beaver. Sophomore Kaitlin Groess finished with 25 saves in the net.

The opening period saw Bemidji State strike first with Goettl scoring at 16:00, assisted by Johnson and Klepinger. UST quickly responded with Ilsa Lindaman netting the equalizer at 14:13, assisted by Chloe Boreen and Jenessa Gazdik. The Tommies then took the lead at 4:25 when Ella Boerger scored, assisted by Lindaman and Boreen, closing the period with a 2–1 advantage.

Rylee Bartz scored just 17 seconds into the second period for the Tommies, assisted by Maddie Brown and JuliAnna Gazdik, extending their lead to 3–1. Bemidji State struggled to capitalize on opportunities, with several shots saved by Strom and others blocked by the UST defense. Boreen added to UST's lead with a goal at 19:45, assisted by Lindaman, securing a 4–1 advantage by the end of the second period.

Bemidji State and UST engaged in a defensive third period, with neither team able to add to the score. Early in the period, Bemidji State's power play, initiated by a penalty on Ellah Hause for body checking, failed to capitalize despite Morgan Smith's shot being saved by Strom at 18:20. Groess made key saves for Bemidji State, including on a shot by Keara Parker at 13:37, to maintain the scoreline. UST secured a 4–1 victory as time expired.

Bemidji State now returns home and prepares to host University of Minnesota for a two-game, conference series against the Golden Gophers at Sanford Center, Jan. 16-17.
