BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University Men's Basketball gets back on the road for the first time in over a month this weekend. The Beavers will take on the St. Cloud State University Huskies at 5:30 p.m. Friday and the Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Both games are available on the Beaver Radio Network and NSIC Network.
Bemidji State Notes
- The Beavers enter the weekend at 3-7 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and 6-9 overall after losing the past four matchups on their home court. Following this weekend's trip, BSU returns home for the annual "It's a SLAM DUNK don't drive drunk" game and Beaver Radio Network Kid's Club Game.
- BSU struggled to find its footing over the winter break, falling in four of five matchups on their home court. The last win came from a 89-77 finish over University of Mary on December 18 to start the five-game stretch. BSU is ranked 13th in the conference and will have to push to make the top 12 and earn a spot in the NSIC Tournament at the end of February.
- Henry Shannon III enters the weekend as the reigning NSIC North Division Player of the Week after posting a 53-point, 36-rebound stat line against Southwest Minnesota State University and University of Sioux Falls last weekend. Shannon is second on the team in scoring this season with 18.5 points per game, shooting at .549 from the field and .654 from the free-throw line. He also leads the rebounding efforts with 9.1 rebounds per game and leads in blocks with 2.2 per game.
- John Pecarich is the top three-point shooter in the conference this season, leading in attempts, percentage, threes per game and total threes made. He is ranked in the top 10 nationally for three of those categories, taking 33rd in percentage. Pecarich is just eight makes away from the top three-point shooter, Jevon Hill of Central Missouri at 61.
St. Cloud State Notes
- The Huskies come into the weekend at No. 1 in the NSIC with a conference record of 8-2 and overall record of 11-5. They hold a four-game win streak after taking down Minnesota State, Minot State University and University of Mary, along with Martin Luther College. They will host University of Jamestown and Northern State University next weekend.
- Luke Winkel leads the Huskies with 272 total points this season, averaging 18.1 per game and shooting .431 from the field, .312 from the arc and .766 from the free-throw line. Wyatt Hawks has helped out on the rebounding front, averaging 8.4 boards per game.
Minnesota State Notes
- MSU sits at 9-9 overall and 3-7 in the NSIC. The Mavericks have won their last two matchups, taking down Minot State and UMary last weekend on the road. They will also host Jamestown and Northern State next week.
- Malcolm Jones leads the Mavericks in scoring this season, averaging 13.0 points per game. He also leads under the rim with 7.7 rebounds per game, taking an average of 2.7 on offense.
